Can someone Help please try to explain to me word-press?

I for some reason just don’t get this word-press deal it is supposed to be a Blogging Software the best buy the way but for some reason I just don’t understand how it works I downloaded word-press and it doesn’t even look like any type of software that I have ever seen..I just don’t get .Maybe it is just to simple for me I don’t know but I can figure out some of the most complicated algorithms on the planet but I don’t get this stupid software.,
